Growing up, Weissmann attended the Ethical Culture Fieldstone School in New York City. He then enrolled at Princeton University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1980. He attended the University of Geneva on a Fulbright scholarship before graduating from Columbia Law School in 1984 with a Juris Doctor.
