Although he was born in Osogbo, Nigeria, on September 27, 1954, David Olaniyi Oyedepo is a native of Omu-Aran, in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. A mixed-religion household raised him. Ibrahim, his father, practiced healing Islam.
His mother, Dorcas, belonged to the Nigerian branch of the Aladura movement called the Holy Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church C&S. His grandmother, who reared him in Osogbo, exposed him to the Christian life's qualities through following her to early morning prayers. She also revealed to him the value of tithing.
