Eiichiro Oda was born in Japan on January 1, 1975. At the age of four, he decided to pursue a career as a manga artist rather than get a real job. Dragon Ball, a television series by Akira Toriyama, is his most significant influence. (Eiichiro Oda Akira Toriyama, two friends also shared a great bond of friendship till Akira’s death.)

He remembers that his favorite TV animated series, Vicky the Viking, is likely responsible for his initial fascination with pirates. He proposed Pandaman as a character for Yudetamago's legendary wrestling manga, Kinnikuman. In addition to appearing in one manga chapter, Pandaman would later reappearance as a frequent cameo in Oda's works.
