Early Life
On September 25, 1965, Pippen was born in Hamburg, Arkansas. His parents were unable to pay for the college educations of their other children. His father was employed at a paper factory before having a stroke that left his right side disabled. Pippen went to high school in Hamburg. He was not given any college scholarships despite being a point guard who led his team to the state playoffs and was named all-conference as a senior.
Pippen started playing at the University of Central Arkansas while still a college student. He did not receive much notice because Central Arkansas played in the NAIA, and the media concentrated on the more prominent NCAA. His consensus NAIA All-American selections in 1986 and 1987 came from his senior year marks of 23.6 points, 10 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and over 60 percent field goal shooting.
Professional Career
- Chicago Bulls:
Pippen joined 6-foot-10-inch power forward Horace Grant as a member of Chicago's youth forward combo. When the Chicago Bulls began against the Philadelphia 76ers on November 7, 1987, Pippen made the jump to the NBA. In his 23 minutes of action, he finished with 10 points, two steals, four assists, and one rebound, helping the Bulls win 104-94. With Michael Jordon Scottie, Pippen polished his abilities and gradually gained many new ones under his guidance.
During the 1990–91 NBA season, he became the Bulls' main defensive stopper and a flexible score option in Phil Jackson's triangle offence. On November 23, in a 105-97 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, he recorded his first triple-double with 13 points, 12 assists, and 13 rebounds in 30 minutes.
Pippen performed his career's signature play in 1993. During a Bulls fast break in the middle of the third quarter, Pippen got the ball and raced to the basket. Along the baseline, Pippen stumbled over a fallen Ewing and landed a few feet from the hoop. After that, he taunted Ewing and Spike Lee, who were cheering for the Knicks from courtside, earning him a technical foul.
In 1995-96, the Bulls had the best regular-season record in NBA history due to Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman.
- Houston Rockets:
In January 1999, Pippen was dealt to the Houston Rockets in a sign-and-trade agreement. Pippen's transfer to Houston for the 1998–99 season, which was cut short by the lockout, was widely reported. In a 93–87 loss against the Atlanta Hawks, Pippen recorded his first triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and 1 steal in 46 minutes of action.
National Team Career
On September 21, 1991, Pippen was selected along with nine other players to the U.S. men's Olympic basketball squad, which was scheduled to compete in the 1992 Summer.
Pippen was a member of the first Dream Team, who participated in the 1992 Summer. Pippen and teammate Michael Jordan became the first players to win an NBA championship and an Olympic gold medal in the same year after the United States won the gold. He was a member of the 1996 team as well.
