Carlos Yulo's brother Drew also went into the same field to pursue his livelihood. He decided to join gymnastics classes at Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School due to his existing talent and skills in the sport. Eventually, the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines noticed him and encouraged him to continue playing sports.
His mother would advise him to explore job opportunities in Japan. In 2016, Yulo was lucky to receive a scholarship to train with the Japan Olympic Association.
