Carlos Edriel Poquiz Yulo was born in Manila, Philippines, on February 16, 2000. Those who raised him were Mark Andrew and Angelica Yulo. They resided on Leveriza Street in Malate. He had the joy of growing up with four brothers, three younger and one older. 

Carlos Yulo's brother Drew also went into the same field to pursue his livelihood. He decided to join gymnastics classes at Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School due to his existing talent and skills in the sport. Eventually, the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines noticed him and encouraged him to continue playing sports. 

His mother would advise him to explore job opportunities in Japan. In 2016, Yulo was lucky to receive a scholarship to train with the Japan Olympic Association. He later attended Teikyo University in Itabashi to pursue his writing studies. From age sixteen, he had a strong sense of direction and knew exactly what he wanted.

Yulo attended Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School in Manila during his elementary years, all while honing his skills as a gymnast with the National Capital Region team for the Philippine National Games. Due to the support of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines, he had the opportunity to attend Adamson University in Ermita for his secondary education.
