Darwin Nunez, an American Soccer player, was born in Artigas, Artigas Department, on June 24, 1999. His father is Silvia Ribeiro, a milk bottle vendor; his mother is Bibiano Nunez, a builder. Raised in poverty, Nunez argued that soccer was his only chance to improve his life. Scouts noticed his skills when he started playing football at local teams La Luz and San Miguel.
After that, he transferred to Montevideo, the capital, to apply at Penarol's youth academy. While at the academy, Nunez experienced significant homesickness. As a result, he decided to return home and live with his family. A year later, he went to Penarol.
