Amazon MGM To Take Creative Control of James Bond Franchise

Today’s news reveal comes as a shock to the industry as it talks about Amazon MGM to take creative control of the all-time hit James Bond Franchise. The news was made public on Thursday alongside the announcement of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, producers and custodians of the franchise quitting the legacy of 007. 

New Joint Venture Formed

After the news was published, there was another lead on board. The lead was about shaking hands of MGM Studios, Wilson, and Broccoli in a joint venture. The historic agreement of the joint partnership will look after the James Bond intellectual property rights. The three parties will always be the recognised co-owners of the franchise but Amazon MGM will have the creative control. 

Statement from Amazon MGM

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed his thoughts on the news stating that: 

“Since his theatrical introduction over 60 years ago, James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment,… We are grateful to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for their role in continuing the legacy of the franchise that is cherished by legions of fans worldwide. We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world.”

Wilson and Broccoli Decide to Step Down

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the blockbuster 007 franchise have decided to call it a day. They are inclined to focus on other ventures for better future opportunities. 

“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects.” said Wilson 

My life has been dedicated to building upon the extraordinary legacy, … With the conclusion of ‘No Time to Die’ and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.” Broccoli stated. 

Amazon Owning MGM

In 2022, Amazon got the ownership rights of MGM for $8.5 billion. In the ownership, Amazon acquired more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows alongside the rights to distribute all of the James Bond films.

When to Expect Next Bond Film?

In 2021, No Time To Die the 25th James Bond film and Daniel Craig’s fifth and final turn as 007 came to the screens. The film grossed an impressive $775 million. There is no news of the next Bond film on board or Daniel Craig's replacement.
