Dodgers Signed a $72 Million Contract with Tanner Scott

Today's news is about Los Angeles signing top free-agent reliever Tanner Scott. According to the reports, Dodgers and Tanner have shaken hands on a 4-year $72 million mutually agreed deal. Tanner Scott will now represent the LA Dodgers, strengthening the teams’ reliever pitchers on the playing court.

Tanner Scott Added to the LA Dodgers

According to recent news, the Los Angeles Dodgers are in action these days. After making previous signings, the team has landed the top free-agent reliever, former San Diego Padres southpaw Tanner Scott.

Tanner will now be a part of the LA Dodgers for a four-year, $72 million deal. The teams’ move strengthens the Dodgers' bullpen, making them even more formidable to defeat. This signing is a record-breaking deal ever made with a reliever.

According to Yahoo Sports ranking, 30-year-old Scott is in the top 22 free agents this offseason and the best among the available relievers.

Scott's Impressive Stats

Tanner Scott, a 30-year-old left-hander pitcher, holds impressive stats in his performance representing San Diego and Miami Marlins previously. He posted a 1.75 ERA last year, scoring seven in five scoreless innings in the playoffs.

Struggling in his early phase, Scott has proved his worth with his fastball/slider skills. He held the lowest hard-hit rate among MLB pitchers with at least 70 innings last year. Scott worked as a closer and setup man with whom the Dodgers can’t get over anytime soon.

Dodgers' Recent Signings

After winning the 2024 World Series, the LA Dodgers have made aggressive signings in their offseason. At the end of November, a free-agent starting pitcher Blake Snell signed a five-year, $182 million contract. Tommy Edman was paid a five-year deal of $74 million after a few days of the previous signing.

Los Angeles bid farewell to 2024 and re-signed outfielder and Home Run Derby champion Teoscar Hernández for a three-year worth $66 million deal. A week later, at the beginning of 2025, Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim was added to the team for a three-year deal worth $12.5 million.

Dodgers' Ideal Offseason Signings Cost

With all the team signings, the LA Dodgers are fueled now. The Dodgers have made the deal, including the signing bonus with deferred money. Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the Dodgers' signing budget is above $375 million and will likely reach $400 million for 2025, with a possible tax of 50% on every dollar spent above the $241 million luxury-tax threshold.
