Joe Biden Removed From 'US Presidents' Search Results

Social media users briefly voiced their disgust on Thursday, January 23, at Mr. Biden's removal from the list of US presidents. A reporter stated:

“Google search terms such as "US Presidents" "United States Presidents" and "US Presidents in order" did not mention former US President Joe Biden's time in the White House.”

Users shared images of their research, verifying Mr. Biden's removal from Google search history. The duration of Mr. Biden's removal from Google search history is unknown, but the issue was resolved at roughly 2 a.m. ET.

@Google so if I search in US Presidents, I get a list of all the US Presidents in order of when they were in office except there's no @JoeBiden.

Responses to Joe Biden’s Removal

The list did not include Mr. Biden's name and just listed President Donald Trump as the last two US presidents. However, before the Republican leader took office in 2016, the list produced accurate results, naming George Washington, Bill ClintonBarack Obama, and George Bush.

Google Response

When questioned about the problem, Google accepted its fault and stated that a "data error" caused the issue. A Google representative said there was a temporary data issue in our knowledge graph. We soon found and fixed the main reason.

Internet Response

Before Google took action to resolve the issue, some social media users said that leaving out Mr. Biden's name was another effort by big tech to earn favour with President Trump. A user stated:

“If this continues, this will be one of the most reckless and riskiest moments in the history of the internet since it will be obvious evidence of power that anyone who opposes it will disappear entirely.”

Another user added, “Biden is not listed on the United States President's Google page. This goes beyond social media.”

Another user wrote, “Who paid Google to start this SEO nonsense in an effort to remove a whole presidency?”

Google Glitch

Indeed, Google was one of several large tech firms that contributed to Mr. Trump's opening fund. The search engine giant gave $1 million to the fund, and at the ceremony on Monday. Sundar Pichai, the company's CEO, stood publicly on the ceremony stage with other industry CEOs.

Google experienced issues with their AI summary product, AI Overview, which appeared above Google's normal search results. When the product was launched, consumers were quick to identify issues.
