Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Lands Half-Billion Dollar Contract

Today's celebrity news concerns Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a Canadian baseball baseman. This article discusses his record-breaking contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. According to reports, the contract is worth half a billion dollars for 14 years, making it the third largest contract ever made in MLB history.

Vladimir Guerrero Record-Breaking Contract with The Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr started his MLB career in 2015. He was only 16 when he joined the Toronto Blue Jays. Guerrero made his professional debut in 2019 at the age of 20. Recent news has revealed that Vladimir and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed on a contract.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a 14-year, $500 million extension, an almost half-billion-dollar contract. This is the third-largest contract in MLB history. Only Juan Soto's deal with the New York Mets (15 years, $765 million) and Shohei Ohtani's contract with the Dodgers (10 years, $700 million) were the most significant MLB contracts to date.

Contract Details

  • Contract Length: 14 years
  • Total Value: $500 million
  • Average Annual Salary: $35.7 million
  • No Deferred Money: The contract includes no deferred payments, ensuring Guerrero receives his full salary throughout the agreement

Vladimir Guerrero Career Achievements

Vladimir, 26, has achieved immense success throughout his short career in the MLB. He has topped 160 career hits so far and will certainly reach 1,000 career hits this season. Guerrero was the cover athlete for the MLB The Show 24 video game, too. Vladimir seems unstoppable and will continue to reach heights of excellence.

Guerrero's impressive career achievements include:

  • Four All-Star Team appearances
  • Two All-MLB First Team nods
  • Two Silver Slugger Awards
  • One Gold Glove award
  • League leader in home runs (2021)

Vladimir in Comparison to His Father

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s success is compared to his father Vladimir Guerrero Sr.'s achievements. Vladimir Guerrero Sr. signed the highest five-year contract of $70 million in 2004. According to the contract, his total career earnings were $129 million over 16 seasons. His son's new contract will surpass those earnings in under four seasons.

Significance of the Deal

Initially, the deal between Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays seemed cloudy. It was estimated that the two sides couldn't agree on a long-term deal. Guerrero Jr. had to agree to a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. That $28.5 million was the third-largest such agreement, behind Soto last year and Ohtani two seasons ago.

This contract solidifies Guerrero's position as one of the top players in the league. The Blue Jays look forward to winning multiple titles with him on their roster. The deal will pay Vladmiri Guerrero Jr until he's 40.
