However, he remains executive chairman and chief creative officer. Ralph Lauren founded and served as the executive chairman of Ralph Lauren Corporation, a multibillion-dollar global enterprise.

Ralph Lauren has been identified with fashion since the late 1960s.  Mr. Lauren, then Ralph Lifshitz, began creating ties after dropping out of Baruch College, where he pursued a business degree.  He sold them to local apparel merchants and was then approached by Neiman Marcus.  It went straight up from there.  His necktie line was so famous that he was able to launch his store in Manhattan in 1967.

He made his money as the founder and principal owner of Ralph Lauren Corp., which owns many brands and earns more than $6 billion in revenue annually. Ralph Lauren is a publicly traded New York Stock Exchange business with the ticker code "RL". Ralph is the company's biggest shareholder. Ralph Lauren Career

Lauren dropped out of school and joined the United States Army from 1962 until 1964. He later worked for Brooks Brothers as a sales assistant and tie salesperson. He persuaded the president of the tie manufacturer, Beau Brummell, to let him create his tie line while he was working there. As a result, the Ralph Lauren brand's first collection included men's ties.

Ralph Lauren USA brands: Lauren's first comprehensive menswear brand, 'Polo', debuted in 1968. By 1969, Bloomingdale's had solely sold his product. He continued to broaden his products, introducing a line of tailored shirts for women in 1971 with the now-famous Polo player logo, swiftly followed by his first full women's collection in 1972. In 1971, he established his first store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.

The brand's distinctive cotton mesh Polo shirt (with the Polo player logo on the chest) was introduced in 1972 and came in 17 colors. Lauren entered the scent market in 1978, launching the first Ralph Lauren fragrances at Bloomingdale's. These included the women's perfume "Lauren" and the men's cologne "Polo". Lauren expanded the brand internationally in 1981, opening its first European freestanding store in the West End of London, England. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the firm expanded with the inclusion of over ten new lines and acquired brands, including the Ralph Lauren Purple Label (1995), Lauren Ralph Lauren (1996), and a paint line (1995).

In 1994, Ralph Lauren sold a 28% share in his company to Goldman Sachs for a lump sum payment of $135 million. The company went public in 1997, raising $767 million from the IPO. The company launched online in 2000 using the original domain name polo.com. It reopened as ralphlauren.com in 2007. The company's first restaurant, RL Restaurant Chicago, debuted in 1999. Other restaurants include Ralph's, launched in 2010 in Paris; Ralph's Coffee, which opened in 2014 in New York City; and The Polo. Lauren stated in September 2015 that he would step down as CEO. In 2018, Ralph Lauren honored its 50th anniversary with a spectacular fashion presentation in New York City's Central Park.

Early Life

Ralph Lifshitz, recognized as Ralph Lauren, was born on October 14, 1939, in The Bronx in New York City. His parents, Frieda (née Cutler) and Frank Lifshitz were Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants from Pinsk, Belarus, then. He is the youngest of four siblings, including two older brothers and one older sister. He attended Manhattan Talmudical Academy before moving to DeWitt Clinton High School, from which he graduated in 1957.

He then participated in Baruch College at the City University of New York (CUNY) but left after only two years of study. He changed his name from Lifshitz to Lauren because his old name had vulgar overtones in English. Not, as some claim, to conceal his Jewish identity.

Personal Life

Lauren and Ricky Ann Loew-Beer married in New York City on December 20, 1964. She is Margaret Vytouch and Rudolph Loew-Beer’s daughter. The two had met six months earlier, in a doctor's office where she worked as a receptionist and taught dancing on alternate days.

They have three children: Andrew Lauren (born 1969), a film producer and actor; David Lauren (born 1971), an executive vice president of Ralph Lauren Corporation; and Dylan Lauren (born 1974). David married Lauren Bush in September 2011, the granddaughter of former US President George H. W. Bush. Dylan Lauren, the owner of Dylan's Candy Bar in New York City in June 2011, married hedge fund investor Paul Arrouet. Dylan and Paul had twins through surrogacy on April 13, 2015, in New York City.

Ralph Lauren Home has long represented the comfort and luxury of contemporary American style. Every season, the brand creates collections that evoke a specific environment, drawing on diverse influences.
