Boies also served on the Theranos board of directors, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest. Boies agreed to be compensated for his firm's services with Theranos shares, which he believed to skyrocket in value.

Boies' involvement and support for Theranos directly contributed to the false treatment of Walgreen patients, potentially resulting in "serious injury, harm, or death," according to the government agency CMS's (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) findings on Theranos.
