Early Life

In 1946, William Jefferson Blythe III was born in Hope, Arkansas, at Julia Chester Hospital. He is the son of Virginia Dell Cassidy and William Jefferson Blythe Jr., a traveling salesman who died in a car accident three months before he was born.

Blythe drowned in a drainage ditch after initially surviving the accident. On September 4, 1943, his parents got married, but it turned out that they were bigamous since Blythe was still wed to his fourth wife.

Soon after Bill was born, Virginia left him in Hope with her parents, Eldridge and Edith Cassidy, who owned and operated a small grocery store, to continue her nursing studies in New Orleans. During a period of racial division in the American South, Clinton's grandparents took credit customers for goods.

According to Clinton, his stepfather was an alcoholic and gambler who frequently neglected his mother and half-brother, Roger Clinton Jr. The verbal and mental abuse remained but the physical violence stopped only after Bill, who was 14 at the time, challenged his stepfather to "stand and face" him.

Professional career

First term (1993–1997)

·       On January 20, 1993, Clinton took office as the 42nd president of the United States following his presidential transition.

·       Clinton had an inexperienced team and was physically tired at the time. During the first few weeks, he experienced a decline in popular favor due to a string of mistakes.

·       Clinton told Congress on September 22, 1993, about a healthcare reform proposal that aimed to create a national healthcare plan to provide universal coverage.

·       One of the most important pieces of law on Clinton's legislative agenda was the result of a task committee headed by the former presidential hopeful.

Second term (1997–2001)

·       Clinton revealed a fresh plan to cover up to five million children for health care in the January 1997 State of the Union speech.

·       Together with Hillary Rodham Clinton and her staff, Liberal Senator Ted Kennedy and Republican Senator Orrin Hatch passed legislation in 1997 that created the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), the largest (and most successful) healthcare reform during the time of Clinton.

Political Career

It has been said that Clinton's efforts, especially the North American Free Trade Agreement and welfare reform, represent a moderate Third Way ideology of governing. His fiscally conservative views helped in lowering deficits related to budgetary issues. Clinton oversaw the longest stretch of economic expansion in American history during a time of peace. Clinton supported a wide range of actions and proposals throughout his presidency, the majority of which were signed into law or carried out by the executive branch.

Iran

Clinton aimed to carry out the Bush administration's dual containment strategy, which outlined a plan to limit Iranian influence in the Middle East. When he labeled Iran a "rogue state" in 1994, Clinton used those terms along with "state sponsor of terrorism" for the first time among US presidents.

Osama bin Laden

During the term of President Clinton, and up until he died in 2011, the United States government aimed at catching Osama bin Laden.
