Early life and education

He was born on July 28, 1952, in the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall of the Dusit Palace in Bangkok, Thailand. The crown prince was bestowed with the name Vajiralongkorn Boromchakrayadisorn Santatiwong. 

Vajiralongkorn started his education at the Chitralada School in Dusit Palace in 1956, attending kindergarten there. Upon completing Mathayom 1 (seventh grade), he continued his education at private schools in the UK. In July 1970, he completed his high school education at Millfield School in Somerset. Before that, he attended King's Mead in Seaford, Sussex, for prep school. In August 1970, he attended a five-week training course at The King's School in Sydney, Australia. 

In 1972, the prince attended the Royal Military College, Duntroon, at the University of Canberra in Australia. At Duntroon, he attended the Australian Army's military academies. He pursued a bachelor's degree at the University of New South Wales. Upon completing his liberal arts degree in 1976, he was promoted to lieutenant. 

In 1982, he earned his bachelor's degree in law with a second-class grade from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.

Career

The Journey Prince Vajiralongkorn Embarked on to Become a Monk and Serve in the Military. Prince Vajiralongkorn underwent the process of monastic ordination at Wat Phra Kaew when he was 26 years old. This marked the beginning of a brief yet significant monastic journey. He chose the monk name "Vajiralongkornno" after participating in 15 days of ceremonies at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, as is tradition. 

Vajiralongkorn had a successful career in the Royal Thai Army after shifting his focus from religion to military service. He began his career as an officer in the Directorate of Army Intelligence. He gradually rose through the ranks to become the deputy commander of King Chulalongkorn's Own Guards and the leader of the 4th Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment. As he climbed the ranks of the royal family, his military duties gradually shifted from being of utmost importance to taking on a more ceremonial role. 

In addition to his military responsibilities, Vajiralongkorn made efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility by constructing "Crown Prince Hospitals" in underserved areas. One of his many endeavours to enhance farming was the "Mobile Agricultural Clinic Project." They aimed to assist country farmers in enhancing their productivity and gaining knowledge about contemporary farming methods. The Rajabhat University system has awarded countless degrees and grants to individuals with exceptional dedication and effort. He was a big advocate for higher education.
