Early Life

Gerald Whitney Stone, an economics professor, and Sheila Lois gave birth to Matt Stone in Houston, Texas. His father's side of the family is Irish-American, while his mother's side is Jewish.

They are the names of the South Park characters. Raised in Littleton, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, Stone and his younger sister Rachel attended Tradition High School.

He was a student at Colorado University Boulder. His father demanded that his son focus on something "practical" because he was afraid he would "turn into a musician and a bum." Matt's decision to major in both film and mathematics was a compromise. 1993 Stone earned a Bachelor of Arts in two fields of study.

Professional Career

The Avenging Conscience was a production company established in 1992 by Stone, Parker, and Ian Hardin. The business was named for the same-titled D. W. Griffith film. They used cutouts from construction paper to create the short film "Jesus vs. Santa".

They also call the 1995 short "Jesus vs. Santa" and this one "The Spirit of Christmas." The guys who would go on to become Eric Cartman, Kenny McCormick, Stan Marsh, and Kyle Broflovski make their debut in it.

After the movie became successful, the group relocated to Los Angeles without Hardin. When they got there, a William Morris Agency lawyer they met introduced them to producer Scott Rudin.

Following that, Parker and Stone started talks with Comedy Central and MTV. Parker feared MTV would make the show into a kids' program; therefore, he chose Comedy Central to create it. Doug Herzog, an executive at Comedy Central, saw the short and ordered the show's development into a television series.

South Park

When South Park debuted in August 1997, it quickly moved to the top of the cable television ratings, regularly attracting an audience of 3.5 to 5.5 million people each week. Comedy Central requested seven more episodes after its initial six episodes proved successful. The first season of the show concluded in February 1998.

The show's popularity made Parker and Stone famous; Parker stated that, because of South Park's fame, he was able to live a lifestyle of partying with women in Las Vegas for a while.
