Early Life
Born in Welch, West Virginia, on January 17, 1957, Steven Harvey is better known as Steve Harvey. His mother, Elaine Harvey, taught Sunday school while his father, Jesse Harvey, worked as a coal miner.
Harvey's family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, when he was a child, and he attended Glenville High School there. After graduating high school, he attended Kent State University and West Virginia University but left both schools shortly after.
Before pursuing a career in stand-up comedy, he went straight into the workforce rather than finishing his schooling, working as a letter carrier, boxer, car salesman, auto mechanic, carpet cleaner, and more.
Comedian Career
He made his comedic debut on October 8, 1985, at the Hilarities Comic Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Harvey was not opposed to adversity; during his early career, he was homeless for three years in the late 1980s, sleeping in his 1976 Ford when the events that he performed at did not afford accommodation.
In 1990, Harvey was chosen as the winner in the Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search, and he went on to host the TV show "It's Showtime at the Apollo."
He kept going to perform comedy shows, appearing on the 1997 Kings of Comedy tour alongside Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley, and Bernie Mac. The show is one of the most profitable comedy shows ever, making $37 million in 1997 and 1998.
His popularity as a comic opened doors for him, including a leading part on the ABC series "Me and the Boys" (1994), a stint on the WB network called "The Steve Harvey Show" (1996-2002), a weekday radio show called "The Steve Harvey Morning Show," which he has hosted since 2000; and appearances in films like "Love Don't Cost a Thing" (2003) and "The Fighting Temptations" (2003). His stand-up special, "Steven Harvey: Don't Trip… He Ain't Through with Me Yet" was released in 2006.
Harvey concluded his 27-year career as a stand-up comedian on August 2, 2012, when he gave his final performance at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In addition to his comedic profession, Harvey has also had great success in other activities.
He has become well-known in the modern era thanks to YouTube and numerous viral videos showcasing his responses to "Family Feud" contestants and their improper or inaccurate responses.
He became the first host to receive two nominations for a Daytime Emmy Award when he was nominated in 2013 for Best Talk Show Host and Greatest Game Show Host. The same year, he was presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Personal Life
Harvey has three marriages under his belt. His current wife is Marjorie Bridges, whom he married in 2007. He is the father of seven children: three from his first wife, one from his second, and three adopted by Marjorie when they were married.
The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which highlights youth outreach and education, was established by him and Marjorie. Additionally, Steve has worked with Walt Disney World Resort for the Disney Dreamers Academy and Kent State University to grant scholarships for the latter.

Real Estate
Located atop Beverly Hills, California, in the gated community of Beverly Park, Steve and Marjorie purchased a sizable estate in February 2018.
The 12,000-square-foot home, situated on slightly less than two acres, was originally marketed for $125,000 PER MONTH, but the Harveys were able to convince the owners to lower their offer to $110,000.
That equates to rent of about $1.3 million annually. At one point in 2007, the property was offered for $23.5 million.
Steve Harvey owns two homes outside of Los Angeles: one, a 9,000-square-foot estate in Atlanta that he paid $3.4 million for in 2010; the other, a similarly huge home on four acres outside of Dallas, Texas.
Steve bought a 5,500-square-foot home on Trump International's 88th level in Chicago in 2013. In 2018, he sold that property for $7.7 million.
