Early Life

In 1993, Bryson DeChambeau was born in Modesto, California, to Janet and John. The family relocated to Clovis when DeChambeau was seven years old, and it was there that he attended Clovis East High School and went on to win the California State Junior Championship. He got a scholarship at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, after graduating in 2012.

DeChambeau made history at SMU in 2015 by being the first player to win the NCAA individual championship. He won by a single stroke with a score of 280. He created even more history by winning the US Amateur title a few months later.

As a result, DeChambeau joined Ryan Moore, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Jack Nicklaus as the only players in history to win the NCAA and US Amateur titles in the same year.

Professional Career

DeChambeau became a professional in the middle of April 2016 and committed to a long-term contract with Cobra-Puma Golf. Days later, he made his professional debut at the RBC Heritage in South Carolina, earning almost $259,000 by tying for fourth place.

DeChambeau won the John Deere Classic on July 16, 2017, defeating Patrick Rodgers by a single stroke. This was his first victory on the PGA Tour. After finishing normal play deadlocked at -15, DeChambeau defeated Kyle Stanley and A Byeong-hun in a sudden-death playoff on June 3, 2018, at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.

In Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 4, 2018, DeChambeau became champion at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The prize money for the win was $1,260,000. DeChambeau defeated Matthew Wolff by three shots to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, Michigan, on July 5, 2020.

At the Greenbrier in August 2023, DeChambeau won his first-ever LIV Golf competition. In September, he succeeded in LIV Golf Chicago, his second LIV circuit event. He won by one stroke with a final-round 63, including a 28 on the back nine.

Customized Clubs

DeChambeau's approach to the game is as unique as his clubs. His wedges and irons are precisely the same length, measuring 37.5 inches. The only differences are in the lengths; their lie and bounce angles remain the same. His clubs are unique not only because of their single-length design but also because of their unusually upright lie angle.

DeChambeau's dedication to his craft is evident in every aspect of his game. All his clubs, including his putter, have custom-made carbon graphite shafts. Among PGA Tour players, he is the first to do this. Throughout his swing, DeChambeau does not rotate his wrists; instead, he retains the club on the same plane.

Due to his reputation for taking long drives, DeChambeau has dabbled with a 48-inch driver longer than usual. Starting in 2022, a local regulation allowing competition organizers to set a 46-inch maximum length limit for non-putter golf clubs will go into effect.
