Early Life
On December 30, 1975, Tiger Woods was born in Cypress, California, to Earl and Tida Woods. He is their lone child. From his father's first marriage, he has a half-sister named Royce and two half-brothers named Earl Jr. and Kevin.
Woods was raised in Orange County, California. The son of the athletic Earl Woods was a child prodigy who learned to play golf when he was two years old. Earl was not only one of the first Black Americans to play baseball at Kansas State University but also a one-handicapped amateur golfer.
Woods participated in his first major national junior competition, the 1989 Big I, at the age of thirteen. Then, relatively unknown pro John Daly was paired with him in the championship round. According to the event's structure, the junior qualifying groups were paired with professionals.
When Woods won the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at the age of 15, he was a student at Western High School in Anaheim. Before Jim Liu broke it in 2010, this record lasted. He was recognized as the 1991 Junior Amateur Player of the Year by Golf Digest and the Southern California Amateur Player of the Year.
Professional Career
When Woods turned professional in August 1996, at the age of 20, he obtained sponsorship contracts with Nike, Inc. and Titleist right once, which at the time were the highest-paying endorsement deals in golf history. Woods won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year title and Sportsman of the Year from Sports Illustrated in 1996.
He broke all previous records to win his first major, the Masters, on April 13, 1997, making history as the youngest champion of the competition at age 21. He broke the record for the quickest climb to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking two months later.
Woods had an impressive start to 2006; he won his first two PGA events but could not earn his fifth Masters title in April. At the end of the season, Woods had won 54 games overall, 12 of them majors. Over an 11-season span, he shattered the tour records for total and major wins.
Woods declared in December 2009 that he would be taking an indefinite vacation from professional golf after the disclosure of his marital infidelities, which attracted extensive media publicity towards the end of 2009.
When Woods competed again in April, it was at the 2010 Masters, where he tied for fourth place. After the Masters, he had disappointing performances at the Players Championship and Quail Hollow Championship, where he quit in the fourth round due to an injury.
