Lucas Raymond Game log (2020-2023)
Lucas Raymond, who Detroit selected fourth overall in 2020, spent his draft season in Sweden and performed okay. Raymond, who was only 19 then, had his NHL ticket punched in 2021–22 because the Wings were seriously lacking attack. He started strong, scoring 28 points in his first 31 games, but as a rookie, he struggled. Naturally, many people were expecting big things from Raymond's sophomore season, but it turned out to be a letdown as he again faded as the season went on, with his scoring rate falling from 57 to 50.
As Detroit has chosen to run its PP1 with two defensemen in addition to Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, and David Perron as the forwards, one crucial factor thus far has been Raymond's reduced PP time. However, that will only last temporarily because Raymond is too talented to be excluded from PP1 for the whole season. Raymond was in the starting lineup for the third straight game in Detroit's most recent game, while Shayne Gostisbehere was a healthy scratch.
Raymond is taking fewer shots overall but also shooting the puck more. In actuality, in 74 games in 2022–2023, he had seven games with 4+ SOG, or less than one every ten games on average. He already has three 4+ SOG games in 2023–24, though, suggesting he is set for a breakthrough. And here's another crucial aspect: assuming he stays healthy, Raymond should be able to cross his 200-game milestone around the halfway point of the 2022–2023 season. As such, he should shine in the second half instead of his typical disappearing act.
