Early Life

On August 21, 1986, Bolt was born in Sherwood Content, Jamaica, as Usain St. Leo Bolt. He is the child of Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt, who owned together a nearby supermarket. He has two siblings: Shrine and Sadiki, his sister, with whom he regularly played cricket and football in the street.

In the little rural village, his parents owned a grocery store. Usain attended Waldensia Primary School, where he was the school's fastest runner by the time he was twelve. When he first started at William Knibb Memorial High School, he was more interested in other sports.

However, the cricket coach saw his quick running pace and asked him to try out for track and field. Throughout high school, Bolt received training from Dwayne Jarrett and Olympic sprinter Pablo McNeil, and Usain started taking home trophies from big-time high school competitions.
