Evans played on the track, football, and basketball teams for the Ball High School Tors in Galveston, Texas. As a senior, he averaged 18.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in basketball.

College football programs did not pursue him because he only played football during his senior year. In his senior year, he caught 25 receptions for 648 yards and seven touchdowns, earning him a spot on the District 24-4A second team.
