Osimhen's first professional learning experience was at the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos, Nigeria. After Being impressed with the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, he signed a pre-contract with VfL Wolfsburg in January 2016. VfL Wolfsburg scheduled the official signing date for January 2017.

He helped Nigeria win the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, where he competed with the national under-17 team. He won the Silver Ball and the Golden Boot after scoring ten goals in seven games. In 2015, his outstanding performance earned him the CAF Youth Player of the Year title.

On June 10, 2017, Osimhen's first game with the senior Nigerian team ended in a 2-0 loss to South Africa.
