Early life

Background Maxwell Tyler Friedman was born in a Jewish household on March 15, 1996, in Plainview, New York. When he was five years old, his parents submitted a recording of him singing "You Are My Sunshine" in an operatic style while eating a pear. He appeared on The Rosie O'Donnell Show on September 10, 2001.

When O'Donnell asked him about his life aspirations, he said he aspired to be a wrestler and an opera singer. He mentioned that Goldberg and The Rock were his favorite wrestlers. He played football at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School for four years, graduating in 2014. He attended Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York.

Early Career

During his early career, Friedman studied with Pat Buck and Brian Myers at Create A Pro Wrestling Academy in Hicksville, NY. He made his official wrestling debut in February 2015. As a rookie, he demonstrated his abilities for Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and Five Borough Wrestling (FBW), two independent wrestling organizations in the Northeast.

Create A Pro Wrestling Academy (2015-2017)

From 2015 to 2017, Friedman established a professional wrestling school. He began his career as Maxwell Jacob Feinstein, a member of a winning tag team at the CAP Create A Pro Wrestling Show against Luciano and Vinny Spano. He won the battle against Joe Bronson. He primarily competed in tag team events before facing his former mentor, Brian Myers, in a singles battle. Feinstein competed in the CAP Championship Tournament and advanced past the first round but lost to Tony Nese. He and Bronson competed in the 2016 CAP Tag Team Championship tournament. They advanced to the finals, but Massage NV defeated them in a best-of-five encounter. Feinstein continues to fight in many fights even though his previous CAP battle was in September 2017.

Combat Zone Wrestling (2015-2018)

When Friedman first debuted in CZW, his ring name was Pete Lightning. That's how they referred to him and Hous Blazer. Their first victory came in December 2015. In 2016, Friedman renamed himself Maxwell Jacob Feinstein and competed in the Dramatic Destination Series. He had mixed results there. He won the CZW Wired Championship in May 2017 and held it for several months until Joey Janela defeated him in October. Two months later, he reclaimed it in CZW Cage of Death 19. Feinstein emerged as the top contender for the CZW World Heavyweight Championship after winning a 27-man battle royal in February 2018. After defeating Rickey Shane Page to become the World Heavyweight Champion in April 2018, he resigned from the Wired Championship.

Major League Wrestling (2017-2020)

Feinstein defeated Jimmy Yuta in his MLW debut on October 5, 2017. He then defeated Joey Ryan in December. After losing to Brody King in January 2018, Feinstein competed in the MLW World Heavyweight Championship Tournament but pulled out in the opening round. He subsequently won three consecutive games, defeating MVP Fred Yehi and Lance Anoa'i. During his time at MLW, Feinstein was a highly dangerous opponent.

All Elite Wrestling

Undefeated Streak (2019-2020)

In January 2019, Friedman signed a five-year contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He debuted as a heel in Double or Nothing's Casino Battle Royale, but Adam Page beat him to the finish line and defeated him. Friedman competed in two memorable matches: a four-way bout at Fyter Fest and a six-man tag team match at Fight for the Fallen. He defeated Brandon Cutler in October to earn his first Dynamite victory. Following that, he turned on his friend Cody Rhodes, resulting in a massive conflict. Tensions in the group escalated, especially between Friedman and Sammy Guevara, leading to his injury during a kayfabe session. Friedman won All Out's Casino Ladder Match, granting him the opportunity to defend his AEW World Championship title in September 2022. Friedman defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship at Full Gear, with aid from William Regal.
